Orange blossom opens it, but not the sweet, soapy kind — there is moss underneath from the first minute, which pulls the flower down and keeps it earthy rather than pretty.

The heart is where the amber character starts to build. Orris gives it a cool, powdery spine, cinnamon adds warmth without turning it edible, and labdanum begins the resinous thread that runs all the way to the base. Musk sits between them and softens the joins.

The dry-down is the point of the fragrance: agarwood and oud, more labdanum, ambergris and vanillin. This is amber in the older sense — resinous and animalic rather than sugary — with oud giving it depth and ambergris a salty, skin-like warmth.

Who it suits

Unisex, and better suited to evenings and cooler months than to the middle of a Gulf afternoon. If you find most modern ambers too sweet, this is the drier reading of the same idea.
